Shareholder democracies? Corporate governance in Britain 1720-1845

Since October 2003 I have been working with Robin Pearson (University of Hull) and James Taylor (Lancaster University) on a major ESRC-funded research project. For 2 years James Taylor and I were employed by the University of Hull to work on this project. We are writing a jointly-authored monograph, for which we have a contract with the University of Chicago Press. We have also published articles in the English Historical Review and Accounting, Business and Financial History, and have presented papers at several conferences and seminar series. We have edited an 8-volume series of primary sources, The History of the Company: The Development of the Business Corporation 1700-1914, published by Pickering and Chatto in 2006-7.
